Transparencies - Andrew Toovey

Andrew Toovey's new work 'Transparencies' for solo violin will be played during the exhibition of artist Julian Grater's collection of work under the same title. It will be performed by internationally recognised violinist Charles Mutter of the Smith Quartet and IXION Ensemble live on certain dates and recorded on others. Toovey's work (www.bmic.co.uk/newvoices/) embraces a wide range of emotional responses to art and Grater's work provides the perfect light and structural balance to focus this dark yet radiant violin piece.

Toovey has written two chamber operas, an orchestral work 'Red Icon' for the BBC Symphony Orchestra, much chamber and solo music and is presently engaged on his third opera based on a novel by James Purdy. He has two CD's on the Largo Label, one orchestral, the other his second opera 'The Juniper Tree' based on the tale collected by the brothers Grimm.
